2016 Volt ordering

Just a quick note:

I just ordered our next Volt, a 2016 Volt LTZ. It will be the first one our dealership orders. General Motors is NOT accepting orders yet, but this gets my place in line. Anyone else want to place an order? Let me know!

About the author

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.

  1. I live in the SF bay Area and wanting and waiting to order a 2016 Volt. Your thoughts appreciated as to getting in line as the local Chevy dealer awaits GM release in the fall. They are uncertain of availability.

    1. Kent, Since General Motors isn’t accepting orders yet, you’ll have to locate a local dealer who is starting their list of orders. At best it’s an informal program, but the Volt has popularity in CA, so there are probably dealers willing to do this.

  2. Off topic. Buzz, have you tried selling a fleet of Volts to a company? I read that a CA electricity company bought a fleet of EVs (obviously, to promote a new use for their electricity). There are a lot of electricity companies in Tx.

    1. We have a Fleet Sales Department that handles all fleet sales. I am unable to sell to fleets, without working with that group.

  3. Buzz, I’m located in the Washington DC area and am interested in a 2016 Volt. I got to drive a pre-market original Volt and the cramped back seat stood in the way of my ordering Volts up to now. I’ve noted the small increase in back seat room according to the specs and what looks to be (when I overlay 2015 and 2016 images of the Volt) a larger rear door and I want to see for myself if those seeming changes are enough to make entry and exit easy enough to meet my needs. I am trying to see and sit in a 2016 Volt at the earliest opportunity and to configure and price a 2016 Volt. Any advice about availability of a 2016 Volt appearing in the DC/MD/DE area prior to actual deliveries to dealers and/or pricing of standard equipment and options for 201 would be welcome. Thanks.

    1. Dealers, in your area, will be able to order Volts in late August, for production in October. You should see them on showroom floors around Halloween.

      1. Thanks for your reply Buzz. I am in touch with local dealers and I have the ordering forms (net of pricing) which I found somewhere online and 3 configurations based on those options I am looking to price.

I see that Chevrolet will be showing a Volt in Detroit this coming weekend at something I never knew existed, the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. But from everything I can tell it will be “on display” and not available for a look and a sit inside.

Again, thanks. I enjoy the site devoted to your Volt experience.

        Best,

        Howard
