The pricing for the two trim levels and various options have been added to the AutoBook configuration software. For more detailed options information, see my earlier blog post. As announced by General Motors, the entry-level Bolt EV, the “LT” trim level, will start at $37,495, including destination charge, keeping Mary Barra’s promise that the Bolt would be priced “below $30,000, after income tax credit.” Of course, some people will not qualify for the entire tax credit. The upper trim level “Premier starts at $41,780, including destination charge (or $34,280 after tax credit).
The Volt has a price advantage over the Bolt EV, even though its hybrid nature makes it a more complex vehicle. However, the Volt hybrid and Bolt EV are not really competitors, but are complimentary, in Chevrolet’s lineup. Add to these the Malubu Hybrid, which is currently available and the 2017 Silverado hybrid pickup, coming soon, and you have a suite of solutions for more fuel-efficient transport.

“LG Chem Expects 30,000+ Chevy Bolt Sales In 2017”

What would be your guess, Buzz?
I think 30K is a good estimate. General Motors would just have to average 2,500 per month to hit that. Volt sales, since the 2017s became available nation-wide, have averaged over 2,000 per month or 24,350 per year. The Bolt EV has no clear competitor, at this time. If you want over 200 miles of EV range per charge, you have the Bolt or the Model S & Model X at twice the price.
The Bolt EV is a game-changer. I’ve not seen interest in a new plug-in vehicle like this, with the exception of the Tesla Model 3, which doesn’t even exist yet.
Do you anticipate a major advertising campaign for the Bolt, or virtually no advertising at all like GM does for the Volt? GM doesn’t even put the Volt in group ads for several different models.
I have no idea, but am expecting an all-out blitz. This is the EV the world has been waiting for. This shows off GM’s abilities. But then again, profit margins on pickups & SUVs are pretty good…
Chevrolet Bolt Production Now Underway!
“Production is on the low side for now, with just 9 Bolts rolling off the line per hour and only 1 shift working on producing the Bolt, but the ramp up over time should get that figure to 30 Bolts per hour.
“We’ve known for quite some time now that Bolt production was just around the corner. In fact, dealers began accepting orders some two weeks ago (partial ordering guide here), with allocations beginning for select dealerships just prior.”
