“A Better Routeplanner???”

This has to be the most poorly named website. EVER. “A Better Routeplanner?”

REALLY?!?!?

Who says so? OPEC? API??

Just some of the places I DON’T want to recharge!

Just as a test, I tried a route I’ve actually driven before, from Fort Worth to Houston, via Austin. In real life, I drove the entire distance to downtown Austin on a single charge. TWICE. I charged while eating lunch and then drove to Houston, WITH ENOUGH CHARGE REMAINING THAT WE DIDN’T STOP TO CHARGE AGAIN, UNTIL REACHING SPRING, TX.
According to ABRP, although starting with 100%
SOC, in a vehicle that has an EPA rating of 259 miles per charge, I need to charge before leaving the DFW metroplex. The charger I wanted to visit, in Austin, lies only 198 miles from my starting point. That’s only 76% of the EV’s EPA average range!
I kept clicking on “avoid this charger,” but it would just route me to another “premature electrification” near my starting point. After I had eliminated many chargers in the DFW area, the route sent me down I-35, toward Austin (so far, so good…) and then suddenly detoured to a charger in Madisonville! (for those unfamiliar with Texas geography, Madisonville is on the way BACK to DFW, from Houston, NOT on the way TO Austin, from DFW.

I want to give this website a good review, but it is so poorly implemented, (at least at routing this particular trip) that I’d be committing EVthanasia by doing so.

About the author

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.
