A dealership that’s selling and supporting EVs the right way

I visited Friendly Chevrolet in Dallas to check out their new EV charging park, called EVHQ. I was very impressed. The charging park is open 24/7/365 and is manned by an attendant (concierge) who can walk EV newbies through the charging process, answer questions about EVs, etc. It has 8 DC fast chargers with canopies to shade your EV while charging. There’s even a dog park, so you and your best friend can spend some quality time together, while your EV is charging!

During dealership open hours, there’s a restaurant on site to grab a coffee or snack while your EV is charging and a customer lounge with free wi-fi. The showroom was festooned with EV banners hanging from the ceiling, when I visited. They’re not keeping their EVs a secret!

The next step, for this dealer was mobile charging. The dealership is located next to a large medical center with huge parking garages. For a monthly fee, a mobile charging unit will charge EVs, while the driver is at work.

But wait! There’s more!

That pickup can also come to your stranded EV to recharge on the roadside, similar to AAA bringing you gasoline. Heck, one day there may even be an EVHQ charging network…

About the author

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.
