I recently visited EV Autos (214-707-0078), in Dallas, Texas, to meet with the owner, Ken See and to test drive a Coda. I met Ken at the Clean Cities AltCar Conference & Expo, held in Plano, Texas. He was there, exhibiting the Coda as well as commercial, low-speed electricLearning Center vehicles. What intrigued me about Ken was his commitment to electric vehicle adoption and doing things “green.” He talked about his dealership having solar panels, renewable building materials like bamboo flooring, a rainwater capture system for maintaining his garden, and multiple Blink Level 2 chargers. I also liked that they have a “Learning Center” and a “Cabana” for students or organizations to come to learn about electric vehicles and host social events. bathtubThe Cabana has an old claw-foot bathtub they use for icing down beverages and of course, as the ice melts, the water drains into a small garden. The dealership gets its power from wind-generated electricity and the solar panels’ output is sent to the grid.

Last year, Ken hosted an evening social gathering for the Clean Cities Coalition. Two days before the gathering, he acquired some scrap metal and built a HUGE smoker, capable of handling sixteen briskets simultaneously! I always respect a commitment to ecology and barbecue. Serious stuff in Texas.

How could I not go see this???

Miles EVsEV Autos has been in the business of selling Miles Electric Vehicles products. Miles Rubin, the Chairman and Founder of MEV is behind the Coda Automotive electric cars being rolled out (yes, I know) in California. Mr. Rubin made a decision to separate the Miles EV products from the higher-speed, consumer-oriented Coda and started Coda Automotive.

Coda Door SillCoda Automotive is now eyeing expansion outside of California and with years of history between them, EV Autos and Coda Automotive are currently gauging public interest in the Coda in Texas. Ken has a couple Codas at his business for that purpose. EV Autos is not a Coda dealer…yet.

coda shifterFor those that haven’t seen one, the Coda is a completely electric, four-door, front-wheel drive, family sedan, introduced this year, in California. The one I test drove was nicely appointed with a Pioneer stereo/navigation system and leather seating. It seats five adults (one more than my Volt), has a HUGE trunk and is a nicely appointed car. The EPA rates the Coda’s range at 88 miles, more than enough to make it a candidate for your daily commute. It’s a bit less expensive than the Volt and qualifies for the Federal Income Tax incentive of $7,500.

About the author

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.
