Evolve Houston dealership roundtable

On December 13th, I attended a meeting put on by EVolve Houston. Also attending were with local dealership and automotive supply chain leaders to discuss the opportunity of electrification and the challenges ahead for our goal of bringing EVs to 30% of new car sales by 2030.  I was pleased to see two Chevrolet dealers represented, one of which is located right in front of huge refineries!

EVolve Houston is a coalition of sustainability-minded civic, business, and academic leaders who seek to accelerate clean transportation through electrification. Collaborating with government, academic, private industry, and community leaders, their goal is to improve regional air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Greater Houston area.

As a group, we identified some of what it would take to advance EV adoption, and are now working collaboratively to develop the “Houston Electrified Dealers” white paper that provides detailed outcomes of our collaboration. One of those items is dealership training for both sales staff and dealership management, an area which is also a focus TxETRA and my role as TxETRA’s Director of Dealer Outreach.

About the author

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.
