February 2013 sales numbers: Volt, Leaf, Plug-In Prius and Corvette

I apologize for not posting this sooner, but we’ve been in the middle of a major renovation, in preparation for selling our home. Construction dust is EVERYWHERE!

The February sales numbers have been released, and we have the charted results:

Sales Charts

The Chevy Volt experienced a healthy 43% increase from the previous month and had 21% more sales than the Leaf and Plug-in Prius combined. Nissan Leaf sales were almost exactly the same as January. Sales of the Plug-in Prius decreased by 21%, during the same time frame. Finally, the Chevrolet Corvette, that dismal failure (my regular readers know what I mean by this) increased 8%.

The second chart, which I started posting only last month, shows the adoption rate of the Leaf, Volt, Plug-in Prius and 1st generation Prius from each respective car’s debut. The Plug-in Prius is a new addition to the chart. The Volt, after a slow start, has accelerated in adoption and is now tracking closely to the original Prius’ adoption rate, over the first 27 months of availability. The Plug-in Prius, probably due to familiarity with the Prius name and reputation, is showing a 16% faster adoption than the original Prius. The Nissan Leaf, after a surge in sales in months 5 through 7, seems to be settling in to a slower adoption rate.

About the author

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.
