It’s your choice

When I talk with people about EVs or renewable energy, I apply lessons I learned when I sold EVs for a living. It’s Sales 101, but you HAVE to speak the other person’s language or your message is discounted or discarded. Very few people buy a vehicle to save the environment. People buy EVs for the same reason they buy any other vehicle, styling, performance, low cost of maintenance, reliability, efficiency, etc.

If we’re to change the world, we must become fluent in its (political) languages. Politics has poisoned civil discourse in the U.S.. Everyone has seen the environmental pitch for EVs. Some are just not buying that. Every day I see debates in EV groups asking if EVs are actually environmentally friendly. I see memes that are outright lies, meant to instill fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) in potential EV buyers.

Here’s an example of a pitch for conservatives that touches on the things they (and we all) care about.

About the author

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.
