A Message From
TxETRA Executive Director
Tom “Smitty” Smith
Dear TxETRA Members:
Our Electric Transportation Act (ETA), HB 2221 by Rep. Terry Canales, has just been referred to the House State Affairs Committee.
We initially thought the bill would be referred to the House Transportation Committee, which Rep. Canales chairs. However, we believe that since the bill deals with the Public Utility Commission, which is under significant scrutiny right now due to the deadly Texas winter storm, it was referred to House State Affairs.
It is critically important that you begin contacting the House State Affairs Committee Members to express your support for HB 2221. In addition to other measures, our bill includes an EV Fee of $100, which was what the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) recommended after their interim study on what would be a fair fee for EV drivers to pay to support Texas road and bridge maintenance.
