NAIAS 2015 travel day

Detroit from my hotelIt’s 10:24PM (EST) and I’m in my hotel room about to try to go to sleep, even though it’s an hour earlier back home (and in my head). To make it to the Volt Owner’s brunch, I’ll have to leave my hotel around 5:30AM (4:30AM biological time). There is a Via Motors driver staying in the hotel who is going to shuttle me over the border (I’m staying in Windsor, Ontario) to the meet. We’ll be riding in one of their extended range hybrid trucks. I’m assuming it’ll be a passenger van. Once I join the Volt group, we’ll be taken to the press conference for the Volt 2.0 reveal. Hope I can sleep.

Today, Via Motors invited me to a private reception they’re having Tuesday night. I wonder if cigars will be allowed. I wonder if Bob Lutz will be there…

On the flight from Texas, I watched “Who Killed the Electric car” again. I had planned to watch “Revenge of the Electric Car” as well, but ran out of time. The documentary reminded me of several people I’d like to meet: Bob Lutz, “Mr. Horsepower,” Chelsea Sexton (worked for Saturn during the EV1 and organized owner protests to try to prevent the EV1 fleet from being destroyed), Elon Musk “Rocket Man,” and John Voelker, a blogger in the EV space, whose articles I’ve read.

Well, enough. Hopefully I’m off to sleep. See you tomorrow with some big news!

About the author

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.
