National Plug-in Day?

National Plug-In DayNational Plug-In Day is coming up soon (September 28-29) and events are being set up around the country. In the Dallas/Fort Worth area, an event is planned at the Shops at Park Lane. That’s nice and all, but by the time I get over to Park Lane and Central Expressway, I will have used up most (if not all) of my charge. I’d like to see an event on the Tarrant County side of things or at least, one more centrally located. One reason, is that something closer to the center of the metroplex would potentially attract visitors from both Dallas and Fort Worth.DFWWhat’s wrong with this picture? The white star marks the location of the event currently planned for the DFW area. As you can see, the location favors attendees from the North Dallas/Richardson/Plano area. There’s nothing wrong with that, as long as we can rally the Tarrant County side of things to hold an event as well. An optimal location would be somewhere near the center of the metroplex, like around The Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and the Cowboys Stadium. This could serve both Dallas and Fort Worth equally.

I’ve asked my Chevy dealer, Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine, if they’re putting anything on for Volt owners, but haven’t heard anything back yet. Obviously, if they put something on, it’s going to be geared toward Volt owners and potential Volt owners.

If we EV owners of Tarrant County want to show our fellow citizens how great it is to own a plug-in electric vehicle, regardless of manufacturer, we’d better get off our duffs and set something up SOON. Perhaps Saturday could be a day when we show off our EVs at the dealership we support and Sunday could be a brand agnostic EV day, at a neutral site.

Leave a comment, if you’re interested in participating. Which day works best for you? What time? Got a suggested location? What kind of EV would you bring? How can we get the word out?

About the author

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.

  1. Nice to meet you today Buzz. I was the one who purchased the white diamond base model. I like the information you posted on the energy usage for conditioning the battery. I never thought about that but it looks like it does make a difference.

  2. Tracy, welcome to the pack! Join the Facebook group, “Chevy Volt Owners.” That is a wonderful group of Volt owners who have great advice on the adventure you’re embarking upon. Also join “DFW Chevy Volt Owners,” so we can get a good local group going. Have fun, you’re going to LOVE your new Volt.
