Road trip to the 2013 Chicago Auto Show!

Road Trip!
I wish this is what the roads will look like on the way to Chicago. In February.

Thanks to Elaine and Don, in the Facebook Chevy Volt Owners group, I did my 7 miles on the treadmill today watching “Who Killed the Electric car?” on YouTube. I have become obsessed with an idea. I’d like to drive my Volt from Dallas/Fort Worth to Detroit for the North American International Auto Show, in Detroit week after next or to Chicago for the Chicago Auto Show.

Money is tight and I’d have to be on unpaid leave (I’m a contractor). If I did this:

  • Who could put me up for the night and let me charge my Volt?
  • Can anyone get me into the North American International Auto Show, in Detroit? (I’ve applied for a social media pass to Chicago as I missed the deadline to do this for Detroit) **UPDATE** Looks like Chicago wins (see below)

I would be blogging at each stop and shooting video during the drive to prove, once and for all, to those being brainwashed by the other side, that a Volt (and many other electric vehicles) are viable alternatives to internal combustion engines.

If you’d like to track my Volt’s progress across the U.S. (and you have an iPhone or iPad), just download the free Find Friends app in the iTunes store and request a connection to buzzsmith@mac.com

**Updates**

Bonnie gave her blessing to this little trip!

I have a place to stay in the St. Louis area. Northeast Oklahoma or Southeast Kansas would be nice. Any takers there?

My request for media passes for the Chicago Auto Show was approved. Looks like I’ll be there February 7th or 8th!

About the author

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.
