Stained Glass

Here are some images of windows I’ve made, as well as some designs that have yet to be realized. Making stained glass panels is very relaxing for me and appeals to my appreciation of art and color as well as my, um… let’s just say, meticulous side.

Of course, my designs are created on my 27” iMac, using Adobe Illustrator and Pixelmator, but some of these designs were purchased. (I’ll let you know when it’s one of mine).

I am looking for an inexpensive vector-based drawing program to replace Illustrator. My copy of Illustrator is so old, I have to boot to an old version of MacOS to use it. That’s a major pain for me and I don’t want to buy a new version of Illustrator, when my use of it isn’t very sophisticated. One thing the replacement HAS to have: I have to be able to control the exact size of drawing element, preferably in inches and I must be able to export, in a format Pixelmator can import. If you have a suggestion, I’d love to hear it!

An explanation of my workflow is going to be published here soon..

It’s a great hobby and there’s nothing quite like the final stages of making a window. All during construction, the glass is dirty, covered in beads of solder, flux and patina. The last step of washing and waxing a window is amazing as you finally see it in all its glory. It sparkles like jewelry and light comes alive through the glass.

    1. Dan, thanks for the tip. I’ll check it out. The main thing I need is the ability to set the exact size of entities. My stained glass patterns are sometimes designed as an exact fit for an existing window opening.

  1. I’m interested in the Yellow Submarine stained glass pattern that was illustrated on Google images for this subject. Is this your pattern, and if so, is it for sale?
If so, please let me know. Thanks.

    1. Bob, I appreciate the compliment, but as the Yellow Submarine is copyrighted and probably protected by a zillion lawyers, I can’t sell it.
