That’s all (well, almost) Folks!

That's All FolksYes, according to the “Light-Duty Motor Vehicle Purchase or Lease Incentive Program” web page, the state of Texas is down to its very last $2,500 plug-in vehicle rebate. Who will be the lucky person? I have to admit I’m curious. I wish they’d announce it, with a press conference, like when someone wins the lottery…

Although it is a bit sad that the program is ending, we can also take hope in the difference four years have made. The last time the program ended, on June 26, 2015, there were over $4 million left in its coffers, out of a budget of $7.76 million. The program had been in operation for two years. This time around, The plug-in vehicle owners have grabbed all the money…well, almost.

The rebate was announced on June 1, 2018, but made retroactive for all buyers/lessees that acquired their vehicle on or after September 1, 2017. I spent several hours, the day before the announcement, calling every one of my eligible plug-in vehicles customers, to inform them of the $2,500 and what they needed to do to get their rebate. The program was in operation for only ten months, but managed to distribute all its funds.

What?!? Your plug-in vehicle salesperson didn’t give you a call?

Time for a new salesperson! (more on this later…)

Other rebatesInterestingly, another rebate in the program, reserved for compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquified petroleum gas (LPG), have 945 rebates remaining, out of 1,000 rebates. It’s a shame most of that money will go to waste, instead of being used for plug-in vehicles.

Thank you Texas for your support for plug-in vehicles!

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.
