This article includes comments by rural Texas dealers that illustrate how little they understand the “electric lifestyle.”
One comment was that an electric truck would have to have 500 miles of range, to be acceptable to rural buyers, because Texas is big. At 19 MPG, Fords and Chevys have sold very well for decades. In a gasoline-powered truck, that 500 miles of range requires at least a 27 gallon tank (which costs around $91.53 to fill, based on today’s average U.S. gasoline price). Yes, you can fill the gas tank relatively quickly, but with 350kW charging, you can replace 80% of an EV’s range in about 15 minutes.
OH, THE HORROR!
The new Silverado EV has 400 miles of range and would add about 250 miles of range in that short 15 minute stop. After driving 400 miles (around 6 hours of driving), you just may need to grab a quick burger or use the restroom.
The payoff for taking 15 minutes to recharge? 80 MPG equivalent, instead of 19 MPG, using gasoline!
When you charge at home in Texas, where electricity is relatively inexpensive, the cost to add that same range would cost about $16.67.
THAT’S A SAVINGS OF $74.86 PER 500 MILES DRIVEN!
If you drive 15K miles per year, that’s $2,245 you don’t have to give the oil companies. Oh. Speaking of oil, there’s no oil or oil filter to change. No transmission or transmission filter. No spark plugs, fan belts, timing chains, fuel injection systems or filters, etc.
Dealers HAVE to start explaining this to their clients!
