Volt December 2012 sales figures announced

Today, GM announced its sales figures for the Volt. As I did last month, and plan to do, going forward, I am presenting a graph of the sales performance of the Volt, Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Corvette.Sales ChartA good jump for the Volt. 31,458 total sold in the U.S., since the first Volt sold.

  • 2010 – 326 (only available 1 month)
  • 2011 – 7,671
  • 2012 – 23,461 (more than 3 times 2011 sales!)

More than twice as many Volts sold as Corvettes in December (2,633 vs. 1,291). Over all of 2012, Volts outsold Corvettes by 66% (23,461 vs. 14,132). Yeah, that Corvette is considered a real failure…

In December, 2,633 were sold. End-of-year tax credit considerations may have had something to do with it. Last January showed a pretty big dip, so I am wondering about this January. Will demand drop because people who would have purchased in January moved their purchase to December for tax reasons? Only time will tell…

An accidental EVangelist: On my way to work at Apple one morning, my car was rear-ended (and totaled) by an SUV, driven by a guy playing with his smartphone.
This led me to get my first plug-in vehicle.
I started blogging about my experiences immediately.
A year later, in 2013, I was hired by the dealership as their "EVangelist."
I became a board member with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance (www.TxETRA.org) and perform public speaking in the DFW area regarding electric vehicles and environmental issues.
I also teach others how to sell plug-in vehicles or manage EV sales.
I'm on a mission.
